How to soft reset or reboot
Opengear console servers can be soft rebooted so they retain all custom settings, or hard reset to the factory default settings.
With a soft reset all the console server settings (such as the assigned network IP address, user permissions, serial port settings etc) are preserved . However the soft reset will disconnect all users and end any SSH sessions that had been established.
- A reboot or soft reset is affected by selecting Reboot in the System: Administration menu and clicking Apply
- A soft reset will also be affected when you switch OFF power from the console server, and then switch the power back ON. However if you cycle the power and the unit is writing to flash you could corrupt or lose data so the software reboot is the safe option
- The console server can also be reset from the command line using the Busybox reboot command. This will shutdown the system and the Linux kernel securely and safely, and then bring it back up and the command is:
reboot [-d] where -d is the delay interval for rebooting
You can also hard reset the console server back to its factory default settings by performing a hard erase. To affect this, you depress the Erase switch on the rear panel twice within a two second period. This hard erase removes all custom settings and resets the unit back to the factory default setting (refer faq 230).
